Layering is the theory that multiple tragic events create layers of psychic energy which can affect the prevalence of paranormal activity in a location. Clustering is the observation that notably unusual events may coincide within a reasonably close geographic proximity.

A photographic anomaly refers to a visual event which is captured on using a photographic device (such as a camera) which defies rational/conventional explanation. This is a broad element, as it includes a wide variety of visual phenomena.
This element represents a broad spectrum of activity which can be physically measured. Footprints which appear in talcum powder, writing which appears on windows, mirrors, or pages, are examples of this kind of phenomenon.
